From the new rector of Grace Church, the Rev. Weston Mathews:

Dear People of Grace Church,

I am thrilled to be called as your new rector! In the process of discernment, I experienced great warmth, hospitality, and hope from members of the Discernment Committee and vestry. I am thankful for their faithfulness and our work together. I sense a strong dedication to continue to grow in God’s love and for Grace Church to become more and more the heartbeat of the community.

My first day at Grace Church is Monday, June 26. I am eager to know you, to love you, and to become part of the vibrant life of Grace. In the meantime, I am in the midst of transitioning from St. Stephen’s in Richmond where I have served as an associate rector for nearly three years.

I grew up nearby at Christ Church in Millwood and my family is deeply rooted in the area. Prior to entering the priesthood, I worked as a high school history teacher in Nelson County for six years. My wife, Hannah, is a special educator and is presently completing her Ph.D. at the University of Virginia’s Curry School of Education. Along with our dogs Wills and Harry, we are excited to be moving to your community and to be back in a place of such beauty.

As Hannah and I prepare to leave Richmond, I will continue to pray for the community of Grace Church. I ask that you keep our family in your prayers as we work through the details of moving and resettling in preparation for joining you all in ministry.

In Christ,

Weston Mathews
